Rating: 4/5 – A surprisingly good lead-in to ‘Goblin Nation’.

Recently, Deadpool and Nova both met up with Spider-Man in their respective titles and were amazed to discover that he is no longer their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The “Ock” just can’t help showing through to anyone who met Spidey before the now infamous mind transfer. In this issue the Superior Spider-Man teams up with Daredevil and the Punisher, both of whom knew Peter Parker Spider-Man fairly well.
This book capitalizes on the strengths of these two characters and uses the interactions between them and Spider-Man to its advantage, making the most of every scene to make it clear we’re dealing with something different. The dialog in this book is key to its success and writer Kevin Shinick does a great job, almost every panel box of dialog is comic book gold. It’s dark humor combined with a plot that moves the story forward and dialogue that really makes it clear from its tone that we have a new guy in the Spidey suit. That’s what makes the book so excellent.
Superior Spider-Man team up #9 was a pleasant surprise; it was a nice lead-in to the “Goblin Nation” storyline but didn’t feel like an unnecessary tie-in book done just to capitalize on the upcoming event. The combination of Spider-Man, Daredevil and Punisher totally worked for me and the chemistry between them was handled perfectly.
