Adventure Time Annual #1 (Boom! Studios)

AdventureTime Ann

Rating: 4/5 – Quick light-hearted stories

The Adventure Time Annual is a collection of six short stories each by different artists and writers. The first thing that jumped out at me is that the issue seems to be aimed at something of a lower age group than the other adventure time comics. Adventure Time has always been a series that has had dual appeal to young kids and the older teen/20-something age group, and while this book is a good read for both, it’s skewed more towards that former audience than most recent Adventure Time material.

The stories are short (as they need to fit in six of them) and pretty breezy light-hearted reads, with little story content, but lots of fun, goofy stuff. The art is varies, but it’s all excellent, and definitely the highlight of the book in the face of the shortness of the stories. Overall, if you’re an adventure time fan or someone just looking for a book that’ll be a fun, light read this is an excellent choice, as well as someone who does intend to share the book with or give it to someone younger.
