Superman: Lois Lane #1 (DC)

Rating: 4/5 – Proving why Lois Lane is still around after 75 years.
by ComicSpectrum reviewer Gilad Levin.

Lois Lane is one of my all-time favorite female characters in comics and arguably the strongest female character in comics ever. She is a strong, independent woman that will do anything to get the truth out. This one-shot captures the essence of the character and serves as a reminder of why Lois is so great.

This is a surprisingly good self-contained story, full of snappy dialog, as you’d expect from Lois, and has some cute cameos. The plot has a nice Sherlock Holmes feel to it where Lois shows her skills and gets to use them in various situations.   There are two storylines- the first involves Lois solving her sister’s case- I had no problem with that part. The other storyline, with flashbacks to the Lane family past, didn’t work with the main story and felt like it was forcing some background on Lois and her sister. That’s a good thing, but would have worked better for me with more natural transitions or as a backup story.

Superman: Lois Lane #1 served as a reminder of why I love Lois Lane. The book features an interesting story, nice art and cool monster designs, a great way to celebrate Lois’s 75th anniversary.
