Rating: 4/5 – Something big is brewing, jump on board now!

When Brian Azzarello started his run on Wonder Woman he said that his goal is to create more villains for Wonder Woman, because Wonder Woman doesn’t have as large a rogue’s gallery as Batman or Superman. This is probably because the New 52 Wonder Woman has a tendency to kill her villains…But some do stick around.
So far, every villain created in the New 52 Wonder Woman series has been spectacular, with the First Born being my favorite. I’m glad Azzarello didn’t get rid of him, keeping him in the book for another plotline. In this issue another new villainess is introduced and she is showing some real potential. What makes her stand out is the fact that she is a human taking on the gods. I’m looking forward to seeing how Azzarelo will fully integrate this new villainess into the New52 Wonder Woman world he’s created. Adding to the story is the art by Cliff Chiang which is stunning. His art on Wonder Woman is consistently some of the best in DC’s New52. The art is energetic, full of motion and depth.
This book is one of the best I’ve read in a while, complete with a dark yet adventurous tone and an edgy feel to it. Wonder Woman #27 is nearly perfect story-wise. Nearly that is, because as everyone following the series will know, Wonder Woman recently lost her home and the story in this issue barely touches on this topic. We didn’t see the emotional toll on Diana from what had to be a life-altering event. Hopefully next issue or in the near future we’ll see the series deal with the death of Themyscira.
Wonder Woman #27 is a great start for a new story arc. Wonder Woman is recruiting gods for her personal mission while more eyes are set on her goal than she knows. Something big is brewing in this series and you better jump on now before it’s too late.
