Rating: 4/5 – A Politician Who Will Do ANYTHING to Get Elected!
by ComicSpectrum EiC Bob Bretall

No, I’m not talking about the current round of US elections (or really ANY round of elections).  This is the story of Jack Northworthy, who is anything BUT worthy in any way, shape or form.  He ends up literally making a deal with some form of demon/devil to get elected President.

The humor here is political satire that is broad and peppered with characters and situations that approach the utterly ridiculous for comedic effect.  It is also fairly spot on at shining a light on some of the things that are completely broken in the media-driven US electoral process.  Sam Humphries does a great job paining a picture of Jack, he’s a completely reprehensible character that I took an immediate dislike to that only grew as the issue went along.  Tommy Patterson’s art is a nice pairing with the story, good realism but exaggerated just enough to subtly enhance the humor of the story.

I’m usually drawn to stories where there is either a character I can relate to or where I like the lead character(s) and care what happens to them.  Citizen Jack goes another way and while it’s really well-crafted I have absolutely no desire to read more about Jack Northworthy.  That said, Citizen Jack is entertaining as political satire with a twist and is well worth trying out, you might fall in love with the characters and/or situation and see this as the greatest thing since lobbyists tried to influence the price of sliced bread.
